The fifth annual Black Woods Blizzard Snowmobile Tour raised a record $185,000, surpassing this year's goal by $10,000.

The money is earmarked for research and care for victims of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. ALS is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. The result is a gradual and often total paralysis. The life expectancy is three to five years.

Ninety-six of the 100 people who signed up began and ended their three-day, 350-mile ride in Proctor. It was only the second time there was enough snow to complete the ride.

The event has raised $560,000 for ALS.
