HEADLINE: Former PGA Tour veteran Jeff Julian dies
DATELINE: BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.

Jeff Julian, who played on the PGA Tour in 1996 and 2002, died Thursday, July 15th, the tour announced.

Julian, 42, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in October 2001. He died at a hospital in Vermont, where he had been hospitalized for several weeks.

The Branson, Mo., native played seven events on the PGA Tour the following year.

Julian was presented last year with the Golf Writers Association of America's Ben Hogan Award, given annually to someone who continues to stay active in the game despite a serious illness or disability.

Julian was a member of the Nationwide Tour in 1990 and from 1997 to 2000. He competed in 105 Nationwide events and won the 1997 Dominion Open.

His best finish in 58 starts on the PGA Tour was a tie for 16th at the 1996 Buick Classic.

Julian is survived by his wife, Kimberly, whom he met at the 200 Ozarks Open. They have two sons, Keegan and Tyler.

Last year, Tom Watson and his caddy Bruce Edwards, formed Driving4Life to raise funds for the ALS Therapy Development Foundation. Watson contributed or helped raise nearly $3 million in support of ALS research in 2003.

Edwards was diagnosed with ALS in January 2003 and died earlier this year.

A memorial service scheduled for Monday, 8 p.m. at Ledgestone Country Club in Stone County, Mo., near Branson.
