Announcing a Special College Scholarship for the ALS Community in New York
Ride for Life, Inc., a Long Island based not-for profit charity, has made available its annual scholarship of monies totaling $6,000.00 to a graduating senior(s) who has had an ALS family member. The Scholarship winner will be notified by April 16th and money will be available and made payable to the college on or about August 1, 2010. This scholarship is funded by the philanthropic participation of the ALS community, Long Island educators, Long Island Teacher Unions, generous business organizations, and health care professionals.
- Eligibility:
- The student needs to have a direct and verifiable family connection to ALS: either a parent, stepparent, grandparent, uncle or aunt, or sibling.
- The student must be a NY resident
- The student must be accepted (or anticipate acceptance) to an accredited college and provide bursar’s bill.
- The applicant is required to complete an application including a brief essay explaining their family relationship to ALS and detailing any direct involvement with care giving, advocacy, etc.
- Selection process:
- A matrix prioritizing family relationship, student impact and residence of the applicant will determine the point value.
- When there is a tie, a simple lottery will be used to determine the winner.
- The successful candidate will need to verify eligibility
